Where the Islands Take Us

In Raja Ampat, the day might begin with a climb above turquoise lagoons or an early trek in search of birds of paradise, while Misool and Triton Bay hide ancient rock art painted on limestone cliffs. Farther into West Papua, Cenderawasih Bay leads to remote coastal villages where life still follows the rhythm of the sea.

Komodo offers a completely different landscape, from the habitat of the Komodo dragon to the ridges of Padar Island. In Alor, traditional villages keep centuries-old customs alive, while the Banda Islands reveal nutmeg groves and colonial forts from the days of the spice trade. Around Halmahera and Ternate, volcanic peaks and the history of the old sultanates add yet another layer to the story.
