Scubaspa’s Central Atolls itinerary covers the four principal diving atolls of the Maldives: North Malé, South Malé, Ari, and Vaavu.
Departures run every Saturday for 7 nights. The itinerary covers the full range of Maldivian dive environments within a single week: reef walls, channel dives, wreck diving, celebrated night dive sites, and year-round whale shark activity in Ari Atoll. Conditions and marine encounters shift with the monsoon seasons, offering a different character depending on when guests travel.

Day-to-Day Itineraries in the Central Atolls
Days unfold at their own pace on board: a morning drift along a shark-patrolled channel, and sunsets that seem to last forever. On selected evenings, the day doesn’t end at dinner, as night dives and night snorkels reveal a whole new side of the reef. And whenever you need to slow down, the onboard spa is open every day.

Diving Details
The northeast monsoon, from November through May, brings clearer water on the west-facing reefs, stable sea conditions, and consistent currents through the Central Atoll channels. This is the primary season for channel diving in Vaavu Atoll, where Fotteyo Kandu attracts grey reef sharks, eagle rays, and schooling fish, while South Malé’s Kandooma Thila offers regular shark and ray activity.
The southwest monsoon, from June through October, shifts current direction and increases plankton density, driving an increase of pelagic activity. This is particularly notable in Ari Atoll, where whale shark encounters become more frequent, especially within the South Ari Marine Protected Area.
South Ari Atoll is known for its year-round whale shark encounters, while other highlights include the Kudhimaa Wreck, now covered in coral and attracting batfish, reef sharks and large schools of fish.
Practical information for diving in the Central Atolls
- Water temperature: Central Atolls: 28–30°C (82–86°F) year-round
- Dive experience: The Central Atolls offer conditions suitable for all experience levels. Minimum Open Water certification for the Scuba Package, while non-divers can try Discover Scuba Diving or complete their Open Water course on board.
- Currents: Channel and drift dives can feature stronger currents, while calmer sites are always available.
- Wetsuit recommendation: 3 mm shorty or full suit (water stays warm, but completing up to three dives a day can lead to getting chilled).
